Codes diagnoses and procedures following the current guidelines using the American Hospital Association Coding Clinic for ICD9-CM and CPT Classification System - clinical, outpatient and non-DRG based inpatient accounts. Abstracts diagnoses, procedures and statistical information using Meditech and 3M Encoder Systems. Works closely with physicians, case managers and other healthcare personnel.

Position Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:    Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA) eligible or Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT) eligible.    

Education:    Graduate of a Health Information Management program or graduate of a Health Information Management Technology program, or equivalent experience/education as a Certified Coding Specialist.    
Experience:    1 - 2 years outpatient and inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting or equivalent.    

Special Qualifications:    Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology. Proficient in ICD9-CM and CPT code assignment. Coding skills and knowledge of APC code assignment Must be proficient with computers and able to use keyboard. Use of Meditech and/or 3M Encoder a plus.
